Simpler solutions

The computer’s sound just didn’t work. And earlier today I actually dropped the computer – for the first time, I should add. I also recently updated to the second Ubuntu 10.04 ???beta, and I started to panic—what was broken, what was wrong? I checked through the configurations and the drivers, tried out two different headphones and one external loudspeaker, googled around. I then tried rebooting the computer, and whoopsidoopsi it worked. Sometimes I just wish I’d start tackling every problem with rebooting.

Currently trying out the Ubuntu 10.04 beta, and it’s really nice. Better graphics, quicker boot time, more chats in one with Empathy… simply better than 9.10. The only flaw is that Firefox now comes with Yahoo as the standard search engine, not Google, but that’s easily configured.
Four seconds that might have me stop using Ubuntu

Reading about the upcoming Google Chrome OS, I get more and more interested. The current boot up time of four seconds, is a time Google is attempting to decrease. At least to me, this seems like the new era of computers.
The only thing I don’t get is how you need to be online to do almost anything on the computer. I’m online often, but not all the time. I can only hope I got the info wrong.

This is some kind of meme, and a response to a post by Artoo. Anyway, here goes. This is my current desktop. The theme is Dust (on Ubuntu 9.04: Jaunty Jackalope).

Just before bedtime a few hours ago, I managed to lose my entire harddrive of data.
Wohoo!
I was trying to destroy the Windows partition to use my Ubuntu 9.04 in its entirety, when I accidentally destroyed the Linux partition too. I have since spent about three and a half hour sitting here dressed for bed and trying to retrieve my lost data, knowing it’s gone forever.
I don’t care much about my music, or my video clips. They doesn’t matter. What I care about is the novel I was working on, of which I lost the last twenty-five pages. And ofcourse… I’m currently assigned as composer to a small film project. All my working files were lost, so now I only have my memory to go from, and a closing deadline.
To quote Homer Simpson: This is everybody’s fault but mine.
